ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday directed relevant authorities to expedite legal measures being taken by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to ensure early conclusion of tax revenue cases that are yet to be adjudicated.
Chairing a review meeting to expedite FBR’s legal cases, the Prime Minister ordered to engage the services of reputed lawyers to represent FBR in tax revenue cases.
The prime minister vowed to punish officers who were found involved in filing cases on flimsy or false grounds.
On the other hand, he said that officials who have constituted cases on merit with honesty and hard work will be rewarded with special incentives.
The attendees were informed that following the instructions of the Prime Minister, renowned lawyers were added to the panel and as a result, from July to December 2024, 586 cases were disposed of in the High Court and 637 cases pending in the Supreme Court. .
The meeting was also informed that there are currently 33,522 cases worth Rs 4.7 trillion pending in various courts and tribunals across the country.
The meeting was informed that a litigation management panel for high courts had been developed in the FBR.
