The Minister of Energy, Awais Leghari, has assured the public that electricity prices will soon be reduced, dismissing the statements that they would not be reduced, Express News reported.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he declared: “The prime minister will soon announce good news. If we reduce two days before or two days later, we will do it as soon as the right time comes.”
Leghari dismissed the statements that electricity prices would not be reduced, clarifying that these reports were inaccurate.
In response to a question about whether the Government would transmit the benefit of not reducing the prices of the oil product to the public, he replied: “We are firm in our commitments; our word is not like that of the previous government.”
It is worth noting that on March 15, the Government had decided to maintain the prices of oil derived products at its current levels, despite the expectations of a significant reduction in prices due to international market conditions. Instead, the Government increased taxes on oil products in RS10 per liter.
Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had mentioned that, although the prices of oil products were maintained at the current level, an important decision had been made to transfer the benefits of reducing electricity prices to the public.

In a separate interaction with journalists in Lahore, the Minister of Petroleum, Ali Pervez Malik, expressed the determination of the government to provide all possible facilities to the public.
He also declared that the Prime Minister would soon present a comprehensive aid package for electricity consumers. However, he clarified that the reduction in electricity prices would not be temporary but part of a long -term strategy.
