The Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD) has issued an alert nationwide since the heavy rains of the monsoon will hit several regions of the country tonight and Monday, which raises concerns about sudden floods, landslides and urban floods.
According to the PMD, the strong monsoon currents of the Arabic sea and the Bengal Bay, along with a western wave, can affect the upper and central parts of the country.
As a result, a heavy rain is forecast in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Northeastern Punjab, Hill Torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and parts of Balochisto.
The department warned that intense rain can cause sudden floods in local streams and nullahs, particularly in mountainous areas.
Earth landslides and landslides could lead to road closures in vulnerable regions, including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Urban floods are also likely in low areas of the main cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar.
Strong wind storms can damage electric lines, trees, vehicles and solar panels.
Today, warm and humid conditions are forecast in most of the country, with isolated thunderstorms in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the northeast of Baluchistan and southern Punjab.
On Monday, rain is expected with wind storms and thunderstorms in scattered areas of Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The authorities have advised residents in high -risk areas to take precautions and avoid unnecessary trips during the forecast period.
