The Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD) has issued a maximum alert as the heavy rains of the monsoon continue to package large parts of the country, warning of more intense downpours until July 10 that can trigger sudden floods, urban floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to PMD forecasts, the northern and northeast regions, including Murree, Galliyat, Swat, Kohistan, Chitral, Abbottabad and Manshera, face a greater risk of sudden floods due to the increase in water levels in local currents.
In southern Baluchistan, districts such as Barkhan, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Kalat and Tobat could experience dangerous runoff conditions and floods due to persistent rain.
Urban centers such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar are on alert for urban floods, particularly in low areas.
Travelers and residents are recommended to limit non -essential trips and guarantee the availability of emergency supplies.
The PMD also expressed concerns about landslides and landslides in the mountainous and mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir, which can lead to road closures and travel interruptions.
Local authorities have been urged in the regions affected to remain in maximum alert and activate the quick response and evacuation plans when necessary.
The current weather system is part of the monsoon season, which has already resulted in significant rain in the last 24 hours.
Sheikhupura and Balakot registered 48 mm and 40 mm of rain, respectively, while multiple districts in Punjab, KP and Kashmir received moderate to heavy rains.
With more expected rainfall in the next 48 hours, PMD reiterated that the conditions remain critical and urged the public to remain attentive, follow the official orientation and take preventive measures to guarantee security.
