PMD warns of intense heat wave

Islamabad/Lahore:

As the sun hit without mercy in most of the country on Friday, the Pakistan’s department of Meteorology (PMD) sounded the alarm, emitting a heat wave alert with the temperatures that are expected to be triggered from April 26 to 30.

The suffocating spell, driven by a high pressure system that settles in the upper atmosphere, will probably increase heat throughout the country.

The meteorological system is expected to develop on April 26 and grab most of the parts of the country before April 27, causing an increase in daytime temperatures.

It is predicted that daytime temperatures will remain 5-7 ° C above normal in the southern regions, including Sindh, Southern Punjab and Baluchistan, from April 26 to May 1.

Meanwhile, the areas in the upper half of the country-center and superior of Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan experience temperatures 4-6 C above normal April 27 to 30.

A relief is expected from May 1, since a new meteorological system can bring rain, thunderstorms and hail storms into parts of Kashmir, Islamabad, the Pothohar region, the northeast of Punjab, the Alto Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan from April 30.

The general public is recommended, especially children, women and the elderly, who avoid direct sunlight during the day and remain well hydrated to avoid heat -related diseases.

Farmers must plan their wheat collection activities accordingly and take measures to protect their cattle. The increase in temperatures in the northern areas could also accelerate the thaw rate, particularly between April 27 and May 1.

Citizens are urged to use water wisely in all sectors. In addition, strong winds, dust storms and rays can represent risks for structures such as electrical posts, trees, vehicles and solar panels on April 30 and May 1.

The authorities have been advised to remain alert and take all the necessary precautions to minimize the risks associated with the heat wave.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had issued a warning on Friday, predicting unstable climatic conditions in several regions of Pakistan from May 1 to 7.

According to the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the NDMA, heavy rains, wind storms, electric storms, lightning and isolated hails were expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltist, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the upper part and center of Punjab, the north of Balochistan and the south of Sindh.

The NDMA had attributed the adverse climate to the influx of moisture of the oriental regions and the Arabic sea, together with the growing temperatures and moisture. The authority had warned that the low areas in the affected regions could face the flood, while the mountainous areas were at risk of landslides.

The authorities had advised the relevant departments and the public to remain attentive and take the necessary precautions. The NDMA had also urged citizens to stay updated through the Pak NDMA Disaster alert application for aletorological warnings and real -time warnings, particularly before traveling.

The disaster management agency had assured that it was closely monitoring the situation through Neoc in coordination with the provincial and district authorities to guarantee a quick response and public safety.

Citizens were remembered to follow the official guidelines to minimize the risks during the severe climate spell. (With application entry)
