The PMDC has relaxed the merit criteria in 5 percent for students seeking admission to MBBS and BDS programs throughout the country.
The unique relief aims to fill vacant seats, after a request from the University of Medical and Health Sciences of Liaquat, Jamshoro, Sindh. The University urged PMDC to relieve admission criteria due to a significant number of unfilling seats.
After an exhaustive deliberation, the PMDC approved relaxation in the public interest. However, this concession will be applied only to the academic session 2024-25. The MDCAT will not use it as a precedent in any other admission process.
According to PMDC, the initiative has been taken to fill vacant seats throughout the country. He has ordered medical institutions to complete the admission process within the given period.
The sources said that medical universities can now admit students with a minimum of 50 percent qualifications for MBBs and 45 percent for BDS under the criteria reviewed. Up to 116 MBBS and 338 BDS seats are vacancies in private medical schools in Sindh, while in Punjab, 26 MBBs and 100 BDS seats are not counted.
