PMDC refutes the MDCAT Rate Walk claim

Islamabad:

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM & DC) has announced that the Medicine and Dental Admission Test Colleges (MDCAT) 2025 will take place on October 5.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the prime minister and DC also dismissed the rumors of an increase in rates of 80 percent as “false and misleading”, which clarifies that only a nominal increase has been made to cover the operating costs to perform the exam, including security and logistics.

The Council clarified that the rate has increased modestly and gradually over the years. In 2024, the rate was RS8,000 and by 2025, it has been established in RS9,000. The RS1,000 increase represents an increase of 12.5%, not 80% as incorrectly circulated in social networks.

Meanwhile, the record for the exam will be open from August 8 to 25, with a late registration window available until September 1, 2025.

The MDCAT 2025 will be carried out in English in a paper -based format, with 180 multiple choice questions (MCQS) without negative marks.

The MDCAT exam will be carried out by universities nominated by federal and provincial authorities, not by PM and DC itself. However, PM & DC, as a regulator, has developed a uniform curriculum for the examination in consultation with all interested parties, including federal and provincial authorities.

The Council said it has also invested a lot in the development of a question bank based on the common study program agreed by the provinces.

The rate review was carried out at the request of the universities that conduct the exam, citing the increase in paper printing costs, improved security protocols, logistics agreements, payments for examiners, guards, administrative staff and the guarantee of adequate seats and facilities for candidates nationwide and in international places.

In addition, the Council said it has adopted a balanced approach to maintain the accessible exam for all candidates while maintaining quality and integrity in the test process. The statement added that the Council was committed to transparent, responsible and merit -based admissions, ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates for medical and dental students.

The MDCAT will be carried out through the following universities: University of Health Sciences, Lahore (for Punjab); University of Sukkur Ib, Sukkur (for Sindh); Khyber University of Medicine, Peshawar (for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa); Universidad Bolan of Medical and Health Sciences, Quetta (for Baluchistan); and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad (for the territory of the capital of Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and for international candidates in Riad, Saudi Arabia).

Candidates must carefully select a city/center for the MDCAT and complete their application with all the required information or the online system will reject it.

The test will be a multiple choice exam based on paper played in English, consisting of 180 questions without negative marks.
