LAHORE:
A PML-N legislator on Thursday moved a resolution in the Punjab Assembly, calling for the nomination of Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The resolution, introduced by PML-N leader Rana Muhammad Arshad, stated that Pakistan’s leadership demonstrated “effective diplomacy” amid rising tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States. Rising tensions, the resolution adds, threaten global peace.
He said Pakistan’s leadership played an important role in promoting peace and stability internationally during a period of intense tensions.
The resolution also praised former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s “guidance” on the matter, further highlighting Pakistan’s “positive and balanced global role”.
He called for the nomination of Field Marshal Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz and Prime Minister Dar for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Additionally, another member of the Punjab Assembly, Sarah Ahmad, who is also the chairperson of the Punjab Child Welfare and Protection Board, moved a resolution praising chief minister Shehbaz and CDF Munir over efforts to reduce tension in the Middle East.
The resolution praised his “wise leadership, timely diplomacy, and effective use of global engagement” to help move toward a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran and avoid a potentially large-scale conflict.
He further praised Pakistan’s efforts as a “responsible State” working for peace, stability and brotherhood in the region. The House also recognized the role of the government and the leadership of the armed forces in preventing major conflict and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue its positive role in promoting global peace, security and stability in the future.
