Islamabad: The Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) on Tuesday granted the ruling Muslim League of Pakistan-Nawaz (PML-N) an additional reserved seat in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly, while rejected similar requests from two other parts.

The decision, detailed in a 15 -page judgment issued by a five -member bank led by the electoral chief commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, followed the directives of the Superior Court of Peshawar to visit the allocation of reserved seats again.

The ruling puts the general PML-N seat account on KP with that of Jamiat Ulema-E-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), with the case that the party at a more reserved seat.

The order said: “… The quota recalculation for seats reserved for women and non -Muslims on the late stage after the allocation of seats reserved for political parties is not supported by the Constitution and the law.

The ECP accepted PMLN’s plea with respect to the independent candidate Malik Tariq Awan, who joined the party within three days after electoral notification according to constitutional requirements. However, it rejected similar PTI-P claims.

Regarding the ANP application of an additional seat, the Commission said: “The results of the Bye elections cannot be included, since it is not the spirit of the Constitution … In the event that this request is accepted, they will be non -final processes, which will result in the recalculation/ fluctuation of the seats from time to time.”

On Monday, the ECP reserved its verdict on the requests presented by the PML-N, JUI-F and others with respect to the allocation of seats reserved in the KP Assembly.

A bank of four ECP members, headed by the Chief Electoral Commissioner Raja, reserved the decision after listening to the arguments of all interested parties.

During the hearing, PML-N lawyers, Jui-F and other parties appeared before the electoral body.

On July 8, the PHC annulled the notification of the ECP on the distribution of seats reserved for women and minorities in the KP Assembly. The judgment of two pages of the court occurred in a request presented by the PMLN that challenged the allocation.

The court had ordered the ECP to reallocate the seats after listening to all relevant parties within 10 days. The court also arrested the oath of legislators in these reserved seats until the final decision of the ECP.

Speaking to the media outside the ECP office in Islamabad, the leader and lawyer of Jui-F, Kamran Murtaza, said that all political parties presented their arguments before the commission during today’s hearing.

He said that PML-N demanded to obtain a greater proportion of reserved seats, particularly after the inclusion of the independent candidate Tariq Awan in his ranks.
