PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police on Wednesday clarified that no security personnel of former Prime Minister Ali Amin Gandapur have been withdrawn, dismissing reports circulating about changes in his protection arrangements.

In a statement, police officials said the deployment provided to the former prime minister remains intact and no reduction has been made to his security detail.

According to officials, Gandapur currently has a total of 77 people. Of them, 58 officers of the police security wing are deployed at his residence, while 12 officers of the Border Reserve Police (FRP) are also on duty. Additionally, seven police officers from Dera Ismail Khan are stationed at the bungalow.

Police said security measures continue as usual and the impression of any withdrawal of personnel is incorrect. They added that details of deployed personnel have been made public to dispel speculation and confirm that all measures remain in place.

Meanwhile, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Wednesday said the issue of security withdrawal from Gandapur had been “unnecessarily” exaggerated and described it as “a non-issue”.

In a statement, the senior provincial official said the government’s focus remained on the release of the party’s founding president, Imran Khan.

Afridi reiterated that no instructions had been given to withdraw security from Gandapur, adding that the matter was being “unnecessarily politicised”.

He said the government was engaged in what he described as a fight for “real freedom” and that all its attention remained focused on efforts related to the party leadership.

After reports emerged about the alleged removal of his security team, an audio message attributed to Gandapur emerged in which he claimed that he had been informed that the deputy director of security had ordered the withdrawal of all police personnel deployed for his protection.
