Bannu:
Police rejected a terrorist attack against his Fateh Khel post on the outskirts of the city of Bannu, killing three terrorists in a fierce fire exchange in which a brave policeman gave his life, police said Sunday.
The unidentified terrorists launched a fierce attack against the police post last night with small and heavy weapons. Police responded quickly, participating in a great exchange of fire and neutralizing three attackers while injuring several others, they said.
During the intense shooting, a brave policeman hugged martyrdom, giving his life in defense of the country, they added. Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to detain the remaining militants and eliminate any persistent threat.
Police said that 40 to 50 terrorists attacked the check post, added that three terrorists were killed in the shooting that lasted more than an hour. The blood stains and abandoned footwear in the scene suggested that the terrorists fleeing led their injured accomplices, officials said in the scene.
The deputy inspector (DIG) of the Bannu Sajad Khan mountain range and the District Police officer (DPO) Salem Abbas Kulachi immediately arrived at the meeting site and praised the value of the police personnel.
“The terrorists had blocked the roads that led to the post, but the police officers reopened the roads and fought with the terrorists,” said Dig Khan in a statement. “The police personnel bravely fought the terrorists, who used heavy weapons,” he added.
“The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa [K-P] Police is a brave force, which remains firm in the first line against terrorism, “he said.” Our officers know how to respond decisively to the cowardly attacks of the enemy. Such actions will not demoralize us. Bannu police are ready to make every sacrifice for peace, “he added.
Dig Sajad Khan said that Inspector General (IG) of the KP Zulfiqar Hameed police also praised the courage of the police force and paid rich taxes to the martyred police. “The martyred agent Rooh Niaz Khan is our hero. His sacrifice for the nation will never be forgotten.”
Funeral prayers by martyred agent Rooh Niaz Khan offered in the police lines of Bannu on Sunday morning, attended by Dig Khan, Dpo Kulachi, relatives and other police officers. On the occasion, Dpo Kulachi said that Bannu police was totally able to face terrorists.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the martyred agent, saying that he reached the highest level of martyrdom sacrificing his life in the fulfillment of duty. “The police bravely fought the terrorists sponsored by the Indians who attacked at night,” he said.
KP and Baluchistan have witnessed an increase in terrorist attacks in recent months. A report establishes that militant attacks in July increased by 5% compared to June.
The last month saw a slight increase in militant violence, after a brief decrease in the previous month, said the Institute of Conflict and Security Studies of Pakistan (PICSS) in its monthly report published last week.
The report said that 82 militant attacks were recorded throughout the country in July, which resulted in the death of 101 people and injuries to another 150. Among the deaths, 47 were civilians, 36 security personnel and 18 militants.
In contrast, the report said that June saw 78 militant attacks, which resulted in 100 deaths and 189 injuries. The July numbers indicated a 5% increase in militant attacks compared to the previous month, the report added.
KP remained the epicenter of such attacks, with the worst part of 53 assaults. He was followed by Baluchistan with 28 attacks. According to the report, no Punjab, Sindh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), or the territory of the capital of Islamabad (ICT) were not reported.
The report also highlighted the intensified operations of contramilitance by the security forces, which resulted in the murder of 106 militants and the arrest of 69 alleged agents in July.
