the narrative
CoinDesk’s annual Consensus Hong Kong conference will begin this Wednesday with a keynote from Hong Kong CEO John KC Lee.
Why is it important
Hong Kong is playing an interesting role at the intersection of financial services between the global East and West. CoinDesk will explore that role at Consensus,
breaking it
We’ll hear from Finance Secretary Paul Chan and Securities and Futures Commission CEO Julia Leung on the first day of Consensus, and discuss the growth of real-world asset tokenization, evolving stablecoins and payment systems, and how exchange-traded funds (ETFs) work.
Our speakers will include regulators and politicians from around the world, with panels looking at how both regulators and industry participants approach the sector – a conversation we’ve had every year at Consensus, but one that continues to evolve.
Privacy, artificial intelligence, decentralized finance and trading behaviors will also occupy one of the many stages throughout the conference.
It will be part of a busy week ahead: SEC Chairman Paul Atkins will testify before the House Financial Services and Senate Banking Committees. While the hearings focus on SEC oversight in general, Atkins and crypto’s efforts to develop industry-wide rules are expected to emerge.
The White House is also calling another meeting between representatives of the banking and cryptocurrency industry. There are not many details available yet.
