Rome: Pope Leo XIV has offered to organize peace conversations between Russia and Ukraine in the Vatican.

The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, confirmed the Pope’s offer after talking to him, saying that she is ready to help take both sides to the table and work to finish the war.

Meloni consulted Leo after a phone call on Monday between the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, said his office.

Trump spoke with European leaders, including Meloni after the call, and was asked to confirm the Pope’s disposition to organize conversations, said his office.

Meloni spoke with the Pope on Tuesday and pointed out “the will of the Holy Father to organize the next discussions between the parties in the Vatican,” he said.

She thanked the Pope for “her unwavering commitment to peace.”

Meloni also spoke on Tuesday with the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and several other world leaders to maintain “close coordination” with a view to peace conversations, he added.

The recent efforts to resolve the war after the invasion of Ukraine of Russia in Russia of Ukraine have not thrown advances, and Putin has rejected the proposals of Alto El Fuego de kyiv.

Leo proposed the mediation of the Vatican to the matches at war last week at a meeting with representatives of the Eastern Christian churches.
