LAHORE:
PPP candidates remain uncertain about the precise mechanics of the recently agreed seat adjustment agreement with the PML-N, revealed the Punjab chapter of the party.
On August 23, the president of PPP Central Punjab and former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, general secretary of the PPP and former president of the Senate, Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, together with the leaders of PML-N federal leaders for Hanif Abbasi railroads and minister for parliamentary matters Tariq Fazl Chaudhary, announced to the articulation Seat adjustment, first time in your opposition days.
According to the formula, the “runners -up” in a constituency would be entitled to field candidates.
However, PPP, based on its own interpretation, has also included seats in which no official PML-N candidate filed between its candidate and the winner, regardless of their own performance in these constituencies.
According to the central chapter of Punjab of the PPP, the party had been watching Na-143 Sahiwal, Na-175 Muzaffarrh and Na-185 Dera Ghazi Khan. He explained that where a PPP candidate obtained more votes than a PML-N candidate in good faith, party candidates should retain the right to present their candidate in the next surveys, regardless of their survey position.
It is worth noting that in Na-185, DG Khan, the candidate PML-N ran like a second independent and insured place, while Dost Muhammad Khosa of the PPP was third. In Sahiwal, the seat was left open for the Itemhkam-E-Pakistan (IPP) party, with its candidate, Nouman Ahmad Langial, ending third. The independent candidate backed by PML-N took second place and the PPP landed in fifth place.
Multiple PPP leaders, while talking to the Express PAkGazette, admitted that they were not sure if they would be assigned a seat that is not muzaffarrh, that it was not even at stake at this time.
A leader said that real campaigns would only begin once the game was insured with seats that is worth playing. “Apart from Dost Muhammad Khosa in DG Khan, no one else would consider doing a half campaign,” he said.
In statements to the Express PAkGazette, the secretary general of PPP, Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, confirmed that the formula had been agreed “in principle.” He was asked to clarify what he implied, he said, “the runner -ups will present their candidate.”
When it was pressed if this meant that the seats where PPP arrived third or fourth would be excluded, despite the interpretation of Punjab PPP that where no PML-N candidate was above the PPP candidate, they had the field right, he explained that even in said seats where the PML-N candidate was not between the winning candidate and ours, we should obtain the right.
When asked about the rejection of the PML-N of this interpretation, Bukhari said: “We are partners and we will discuss at the Punjab level meeting.” Regarding the time of that meeting, he added that he was not aware of any exact date, but said the meeting will take place soon.
When asked why the party had opted outside the direct answer in Punjab, especially as many in the party believed that PTI’s absence offered a golden opportunity to recover the lost land, he said that the contest against the partners of the coalition was unthinkable.
“How can we play the elections against our allies?” The main leader said. “It was thought to keep alive the spirit of the coalition and return to the formula of finalists agreed on the days of opposition.”
When he recalled that PPP and PML-N had previously presented separated candidates in Sialkot PP-52, he replied that one should learn from their mistakes. He also warned of Cancel PTI completely, added that PTI cannot be considered outside the race, since it could re -enter the ring as independent.
