The leader of the Popular Party of Pakistan (PPP) and the Minister of Energy of Sindh, Nasir Shah, warned that the party can be separated from the federal government if the problem related to the channel is not resolved at the next meeting of the Common Interests Council (CCI).
Speaking to the media after a meeting with the leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Pakistan (MQM-P) movement at the headquarters of the party on Sunday, Shah said: “If the problem of the channels is not resolved at the CCI meeting, the PPP will separate from the government.”
He stressed that the channel problem is important for Sindh and has joined people throughout the province. “On the channel theme, everyone in Sindh is on the same page, and MQM has also expanded its full support for PPP both in the Sindh Assembly and in the National Assembly,” he said.
Shah expressed his confidence that the matter would be resolved, citing strong coordination between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari and the president of the PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. “I am sure that the decision made between Prime Minister, President and President Bilawal will be definitive,” he said.
He warned that if PPP leaves the coalition, the federal government cannot survive. “We know that if PPP leaves the government, it will not be able to continue. That is why we hope that the government fulfills its promise on the issue of the channel.”
A PPP delegation, directed by Shah and included senior leaders Waqar Mehdi and Saeed Ghani, met with the leaders of MQM-P Dr. Farooq Sattar, Aminul Haque and others to discuss multiple political issues. During the meeting, the PPP asked MQM-P to withdraw its candidate from the next partial election of the Senate for a vacancy.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Dr. Farooq Sattar said the MQM-P would consult its central committee before making a decision on the PPP request. “A final response will be given after internal discussions,” he said, added that the amendments proposed to the local government system were also discussed during the meeting.
