Pakistan Railways will launch a new latest generation trade train this week, with the aim of offering passengers a modern and comfortable travel experience on the Lahore-Karachi route.
The new service will have 28 digitally equipped coaches, courtesy Wi-Fi and a standard international gastronomic car.
The movement is part of the broader initiative of the rail operator to modernize its long -distance travel services and attract more passengers through improved facilities.
According to Pakistan Railways, the new commercial train is designed to meet international comfort and service standards, marking a significant improvement of traditional offers.
The train route between Lahore and Karachi connects two of the largest cities in the country, a corridor known for the high passenger demand.
Previously, Pakistan Railways had started the subcontracting process of 11 more trains, which will now operate under the public-private partnership model (PPP).

Although officials argue that this movement aims to improve rail services, critics warn that it could marginalize low -income passengers that depend largely on affordable interurban trips.
Railway authorities argue that subcontracting will lead to a better service quality. However, civil society representatives have expressed serious concerns that change can result in rates increases, which makes trips more difficult for disadvantaged communities.
The railway trip is still a popular and economic mode of transport for the poor and medium classes of Pakistan.
It is estimated that around 100,000 passengers use trains daily, mainly on main routes that connect Karachi with Punjab cities.
