President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday paid tribute to the armed forces of Pakistan and martyred civilians in recent Indian attacks, promising that the nation was united and prepared to defend his sovereignty at all costs.

In his statement, President Zardari condemned the “flagrant aggression of India” and said that violence had only strengthened the resolution of the Pakistani people.

“We are proud of the sacrifices of our martyrs. Our brave forces have successfully defended the nation and integrity of the country,” said Zardari, referring to Operation Bunyan-Un-Marsososoos, which according to him destroyed the “arrogance of the enemy.”

He expressed condolences to the families of the martyred, including women and children, and prayed for the rapid recovery of the injured.

“Pakistan’s armed forces and forces are always ready to frustrate any aggression and give an overwhelming response to each attack on our national security,” added Zardari.

In a separate statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan’s armed forces had “fulfilled their promise” to the nation by protecting the homeland and facing Indian military actions with all their strength.

“We not only defended the country, but we make sure that the sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan remained unscathed,” he said. “The Bunyan-Un-Marshus operation made India clear that it must respect the sovereignty of other nations.”

Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the Pakistan Air Force personnel and six officers and soldiers of the Pakistan army who were martyred. He also expressed his pain for the loss of 40 innocent civilians, including 15 children and seven women, during the Indian strikes.

“We have not forgotten the martyrs of the nation, nor will we do it, and their families will never be alone,” said Prime Minister.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to support the families of the martyrs and confirmed that a package of martyrs backed by the State had been announced.

“We are a peaceful nation, but we know how to respond to any aggression,” said Shehbaz Sharif, calling Operation Bunyan-Un-Marshus a clear demonstration of Pakistan’s preparation and resolution.

Both leaders asked for unity before the aggression and reaffirmed the government’s responsibility to defend the country’s territorial integrity and protect their citizens.
