International Labor Day is observed today in all Pakistan, in line with global commemorations, to recognize workers’ contributions and raise awareness about their rights.
The day is dedicated to recognizing hard work, dedication and sacrifices of workforce, which plays a vital role in national development. It also serves to highlight the need for fair treatment, social protection and safe working conditions for all workers.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his separate messages, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the protection, well -being and empowerment of the workers, qualifying the backbone of the economic development of the nation.
President Zardari stressed the importance of the development of skills for workers and young people to meet the demands of an evolving labor market. He urged collaboration between governments, private companies, educational institutions and civil society to create an integral ecosystem for labor empowerment.
By calling workers the “driving force” of the economy, the president paid tribute to his role in maintaining manufacturing, agriculture, SMEs and the public sector. He asked for significant policies, inclusive development and a culture that respects all forms of work.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, described the workers as the “real driving force” behind the progress and resistance of Pakistan. He pointed out that labor protections are integrated into the Constitution and align with international commitments under ILO conventions.
The Prime Minister detailed the reforms made by the Government, including the ratification of key international conventions and the introduction of the National Occupational Health and Safety Profile. He also highlighted the expansion of well -being institutions such as EOBI and WWF, along with efforts in digitalization and vocational training through Navttc and Tevta, with a special approach to youth and women.
Both leaders urged all interested parties to work together in promoting a safe, dignified and rich environment in opportunities for all workers.
