Prime Minister approves appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir as Chief of Defense Forces

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the summary for the appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces. The summary has been sent to the President’s House for formal approval.

Field Marshal Munir will have dual responsibility as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces, marking a historic development in Pakistan’s military establishment. The appointment is for a period of five years, making Field Marshal Munir the country’s first Chief of Defense Forces.

Apart from this, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also approved a two-year extension in the tenure of Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu. This extension will come into effect after the end of his current five-year term in March 2026.
