Prince Harry and Meghan Markle respond to claims in new royal book Betrayal: Power, Deception, and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family. suggesting that the late Queen Elizabeth II once told a friend that the Duchess of Sussex had “brainwashed” her husband.
The couple described author Tom Bower as someone who had an “obsession” with them and dismissed his theories as exaggerated.
A spokesperson for the Sussexes said on Saturday, March 14, that Bower “crossed the line from criticism to fixation,” saying she had publicly stated that the monarchy “depends on truly erasing the couple from our state of life.”
The statement continues: “He has made a career of constructing increasingly elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met.
Those interested in the facts will look elsewhere; those looking for deranged conspiracies and melodrama know exactly where to find it.”
The book also claims that Prince William and Princess of Wales considered Meghan “a threat” as tensions rose before the couple left Britain for a new life in Montecito, California.
According to Bower, Harry was “shocked” by the fall of Prince Andrew and feared that the future king could strip the Sussexes of all titles.
