Prince Harry’s latest move could potentially pave the way for his children, Archie and Lilibet, to visit the UK, according to GB News.

The publication reported that the Duke of Sussex has submitted a new request to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood in order to restore his taxpayer-funded security.

Citing sources, according to the report, Harry’s request follows a formal appeal to the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which oversees security arrangements for high-profile individuals. The committee falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Interior.

Senior royal commentator Jennie Bond told GB News that Harry “is right” about his security needs, given his status as the king’s son and former army officer.

“I’m not suggesting that you should have taxpayer-funded security when you’ve chosen to live in the United States, but when you’re in the United Kingdom, it doesn’t seem like too much to ask for security to be provided by the Metropolitan Police,” he said.

Bond suggested that improving Harry’s security measures could make it easier for his family to visit.

“If there was an improvement in his security arrangements, it could clear the way for him to bring his children, and his wife if she wanted to come, to visit family at home,” he said.

However, Bond warned against King Charles III’s involvement in the dispute. “Harry would do well to avoid involving his father in their dispute, as that puts the King in a very difficult position,” he warned.

The Home Office confirmed receipt of Harry’s request but declined to comment further, citing the need to protect individual security measures.

“The UK Government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate,” a spokesperson said.

Harry’s security situation has been the subject of controversy since he stepped down as a royal in 2020.
