Prince Harry has more fans in Britain than the headlines suggest.
A new YouGov poll of 8,022 adults on December 8 shows that a solid 56% of Britons believe the Duke of Sussex should receive some level of police protection when he returns to the UK.
A timely verdict now that the Government launches another review of its security measures.
However, Brits aren’t exactly lining up to foot the bill for Harry’s security entourage.
According to the survey, only 17% believe they should enjoy state-funded police protection.
A more pragmatic 39% say they can have protection as long as they pay for it themselves.
Meanwhile, 28% take a stronger stance, arguing that they should not be entitled to police protection of any kind.
And then there’s the final 16%, who politely shrugged and opted for “I don’t know,” perhaps wisely dodging another real debate.
The Home Office has now ordered a new threat assessment after the duke formally requested a reassessment of the risks he faces on visits to Britain.
Harry wrote to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood in October, asking officials to take a fresh look at the security threats he might encounter while travelling.
