Prince Karim Aga Khan passes to 88

The spiritual and philanthropist leader Príncipe Karim Aga Khan IV, leader of the Ismaili community worldwide, died Wednesday in Lisbon, Portugal. He was 88 years old.

“With deep sadness, the Jamat is reported that our beloved 49th hereditary imam, Mawlana Shah Karim al-Hussaini, died peacefully to the grace of Allah Almoderoso on February 4, 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal, surrounded by his family,” said a Official declaration published by the Official Declaration for the Community.

It was the 49th IMAM of the Community of Ismaili. According to tradition, his successor was named. The community leader had appointed his successor in his will, the statement added. His will is read in the presence of his relatives and high -ranking members of the community.

Its funeral prayers will be offered in Lisbon, according to the statement. The funeral time will be announced later, said the statement.

Prince Karim Aga Khan was the founder and president of the AGA Khan Development Network.
