Prince William prepares to take big step as he reshapes future of monarchy

Prince William abandons palace life forever and plans a “normal” family home

Prince William reportedly plans to break with royal tradition by not living at Buckingham Palace when he becomes king.

Instead, the Prince of Wales will make Forest Lodge his family’s permanent home, reported Radar online.

Unlike Queen Elizabeth II, who spent most of her reign at the palace, and following King Charles’ approach of using it primarily as an office, William intends to go to the palace for official duties.

Speaking to the publication, a source said William and Kate Middleton prefer a more robust lifestyle for their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

“William believes the monarchy should no longer revolve around grand palaces. He wants his children to remain grounded and aware of how ordinary families live,” the source said.

“Forest Lodge is destined to be your permanent home, even after you become king,” they continued.

“People would be surprised to see how normal life is at home. Children set the table, clean up after meals and help maintain order.

“They don’t get any special treatment; everyone is expected to contribute.”

They went on to note that Buckingham Palace is “now a workplace and a huge office space”, adding: “No one wants to live in their office, and William seems determined to reshape what life is like for the royal family in today’s world.”

A senior royal aide said: “This move must be permanent. It focuses on creating a family home, not building a royal empire.”
