Princess Beatrice has finally opened about her daughter Athena’s premature birth.
In an essay for FashionBeatrice shared an emotional update about her daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi.
Beatrice’s daughter, whom she shares with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, was born in January, several weeks before, with a weight of only four pounds and five ounces.
Beatrice, Prince Andrew’s daughter, the Duke of York, admitted: “Nothing prepares you for the moment you realize that your baby will arrive early.”
He remembered asking: “Will it arrive healthy? Will there be complications? How will you juggle the rest of family life while trying to keep a small human and well?”
“You know that when your baby arrives, doctors and midwives will be there, doing everything possible to make sure she passes through the challenging first days,” Beatrice continued. “But you have no idea how these things will develop, what happens next. Uncertainty leaves you with an overwhelming fear of the unknown.”
Beatrice revealed that routine scans had indicated the need for nearby monitoring, and doctors had warned him to prepare for early delivery.
Despite the concerns, he expressed a deep gratitude for medical professionals who assured Athena’s safe arrival.
In addition, Princess Beatrice stressed the importance of women’s health, pointing out: “In many ways, for a long time, women’s health has been left out of the agenda.”
Beatrice admitted that fortunately Athena was born health, adding: “It was so small that it took more than a few weeks to dry the tears of relief and for our healthy baby to feel real. His feet were so small, almost the same size as the legs of one of my eldest daughter.”
“I am very happy to let him know that Athena is very good now, I have some more answers about what happened, but there is still no precise explanation,” added Princess Beatrice.
In addition to Athena, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi also share a daughter Sienna.
