Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer was emotional as he revealed he received a letter from another who attended Maidwell Hall School in the 1970s, who shared his near-death experience in the school swimming pool back then. .
On X, formerly a Twitter handle, Spencer shared the text of the letter that read, “It made me cry.”
He tweeted: “Letter received yesterday from another who attended Maidwell Hall School in the 1970s, who shared his near-death experience in the school swimming pool back then, at the hands of the sadistic Mr Maude, as I remember it in my memoir ‘A Very Private School’. ‘:
The letter says: “Dear Charles, I finally got to read your book.
“I just finished it and am quietly absorbing the content.”
He further says: “…I appreciate your accurate reiteration of my episode with the pool and the green bamboo. [caning] experience. The reality of the experience when found among the catalog of others’ abuse is stark and, strangely, seeing it all in print is more shocking.
“I can’t say I enjoyed reading your book because I found it too moving and disturbing, bringing back some pretty horrible feelings, feelings right in your stomach, but I think you did a great job portraying what school was and is. beautifully crafted.”
