Islamabad:

The Punjab Government of the PML-N has hired a private special prosecutor to represent the Prosecutor’s Office in the Supreme Court in all cases related to the incidents of May 9, 2023.

“Mr. Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi, lawyer of the Supreme Court, is appointed as special public prosecutor in terms of section 18 of the 1997 Anti -Terrorism Law to represent the State in all cases related to the incidents of May 9, 2023 before the Supreme Court,” said a notification issued by the Punjab Public Prosecutor’s Department on Saturday.

The notification indicated that a professional RS200,000 rate will be paid by request/case to the logical conclusion of each request/case in the Pakistan Supreme Court.

Naqvi was also one of the prosecutors in the Cypher case in which the founder of PTI Imran Khan and vice president Shah Mahmood Qureshi were acquitted by the Superior Court of Islamabad.

A three -member SC Bank led by the president of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Yahya Afridi, will take the requests of the Punjab government today (Monday) that seeks the cancellation of the bond granted to the accused incidents of May 9. Other bank members are Judge Musarrat Hilali and Judge Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb.

Previously, the additional attorney general of Punjab was discussing these cases before the bank.

The Prosecutor’s Office believes that the Superior Court granted bond to accused persons without examining important material. There are very limited possibilities for cancellation of bonds. However, the prosecution expects the cases to be sent to the Superior Court to reexamine all the material.

The PTI has already approached the Apex court for the constitution of a judicial commission to investigate the incidents of May 9. Former PTI Fawad Chaudhry leader, who is a lawyer of the Supreme Court, said he was involved in up to 32 cases following the chaos of May 9.

“Neither the charges or the Challan report provide a clear explanation of the specific charges against me. I was arrested in Islamabad and appointed in these cases five months later, after receiving a bond in other frivolous cases,” he said.

According to Chaudhry, even evidence against former Prime Minister Imran Khan is absurd.

“The police affirms that three of their agents hid in the Lahore de Imran Khan Residence Hall and listened to a conspiracy to attack sensitive buildings [in the event of his arrest].

“However, they do not explain why they did not inform their senior officers or take preventive measures if they were aware of this alleged conspiracy three days in advance. All narrative and evidence are shameless lies, with obvious inconsistencies apparent in the registry,” he added.

Fawad Chaudhry also asked why the Supreme Court prioritized the hearing of the bond of the cancellation of the bond on more nouns, including its own request, in which the Court had urged the court to enforce its previous ruling that only one case can occur by incident.
