A historical milestone can organize a professional boxing party this summer.
According to Ring, the WBO Junior Welter Champion of the OMB, Teofimo López, is close to an agreement to enter the ring on the island of Alcatraz.
Ring points out that the promoter of the Riad season, Turki Alalshikh, recently told ESPN that he hoped to organize a fight in the old prison turned into a museum one day. López will fight for the brand.

“You know, sometimes I have in my mind, I want different places to do [fights]. Sometimes in the mountains, maybe one day in the pyramids of Mexico, someday in [the] Eiffel Tower in France, [the] Colosseum in Italy, “Alalshikh said.
It is not clear if the title would be at stake, but considering that López defended his title twice last year, seems likely.
The prison opened in 1934, but did not even last 30 years.
Taking into account its 1.25 mile distance to the coast, the island of the Bay area was considered practically escape proof, although there were 14 documented escape attempts.
The most notorious was the escape of June 11, 1962 by John and Clarence Anglin and Frank Morris, who inspired “Alcatraz escape“

It is still a mystery if the three reached the shore and survived. The FBI concluded that the escapes drowned due to the harsh conditions.
The three prisoners chiseled an escape route of their own jail cells and built improvised heads and Maché.
The final escape attempt of the prison, almost six months later, inspired what has become the swimming route of the “Escape from Alcatraz” triathlon.
Both Al Capone and George “Machine Gun” Kelly fulfilled time in the prison.

López has 21-1 with 13 knockouts, but has not fought since June, a unanimous decision victory of 12 rounds over Steve Clockstt.
