Bahawalpur:
A visiting professor at the University of Islamia of Bahawalpur (IUB) was arrested for positions of attempted sexual harassment and bribery, after a complaint filed by a student of the IT department.
According to the signed one registered at the Baghdadul Jadeed Police Station, the defendant, Ahmed Mahmood, allegedly attracted the student to his home under the pretext of helping to improve his paper marks in English, from 40 to 85.
Once there, he allegedly demanded a bribe of RS50,000 and tried to harass her sexually.
The student gave an alarm, which led the teacher to flee through the back door of his residence.
The complaint was reported for the first time to the president of the IUB Anti-Acass Committee, who immediately sent the matter to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kamran.
In response, the Vice Chancellor finished the professor’s services and imposed a prohibition of his entry to the University Campus.
“The University will extend total cooperation to the police in its investigation,” he said.
The police have arrested the defendant and initiated a formal investigation after registering the case.
