Proton VPN announced an important update that promises to make its applications more intuitive, transparent and customizable.
As of today, on April 3, 2025, Proton VPN users, Windows, IOS and Android, will benefit from new updates and functions. These include a new elegant interface, customizable home screen widgets for mobile devices and a new improved profile function.
The new applications also provide a range of educational content to help users to make the most of one of the best VPN services in the market.
THE NEW ASPECT OF PROTON VPN
While more and more people have become familiar with the benefits of using a virtual private network (VPN) in their daily lives, whether it is a better transmission, privacy or security, the underlying software and its characteristics may still seem quite intimidating.
As explained by the general manager of Proton VPN, David Peterson, this can limit the ability of users, especially those who are not familiar with technology, to benefit from what a VPN has to offer. There is exactly where Proton VPN renewal enters.
“Proton VPN applications make it easier than ever protecting users’ privacy while improving transparency to explore new features effortlessly,” said Peterson.
After starting a new more intuitive home screen interface on Android, the supplier has also decided to bring these improvements to its VPN iOS and Windows applications.
The Windows application received a complete redesign to match its VPN Android counterpart. A redesigned configuration menu makes it easier to move through all the advanced characteristics of Proton, such as divided tunnels, a death switch and port forwarding. For the first time, you can also choose between a dark light mode.
An improved profile tab is perhaps the new most relevant feature (see image above).
This allows paid subscribers to create custom connection profiles, choose their favorite location, city or status, server, protocol and configurations depending on their needs.
You can opt for the fastest server in the US. Alternatively, you can choose a Secure Core Server and Stealth protocol if you are concerned about surveillance and online censorship.
While the iOS application also comes with a profile tab, the new version brings the latest improved version to Windows and Android. The team is also testing an early version in iOS, which means that iPhone users will not need to wait too long to enjoy the same level of customization.
Another exclusive feature for Windows and Android at the time of writing, Connect & Go allows you to specify the website or the application you want to start by connecting to a specific profile.
While the team did not give Techradar a timeline, Proton said that the plan is to extend all these characteristics on all platforms (iOS, macos and Linux).
