- Currently, Sony is working on the evolution of its PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) A-Upcaling-Upcaling technology
- The main architect of PlayStation, Mark Cerny, says that it aims to deliver “something very similar” to AMD FSR 4 for PS5 Pro
- The PS5 Pro titles in 2026 will see “the next evolution of PSSR”
The architect of the main console of PlayStation, Mark Cerny, said that PS5 Pro Games will soon have “something very similar” to Fidelityfx Super Resolution 4 of AMD (FSR 4).
In statements to Digital Foundry, Cerny revealed that Sony is now focusing on its super spectral resolution of PlayStation (PSSR) and working with developers to integrate A-Upcaling technology into their titles, but by 2026 it aims to offer a 4-level FSR stand outstand for the next games.
“Our approach for 2025 is to work with developers to integrate PSSR into their titles; in parallel, however, we have already begun to implement the new neuronal network in PS5 Pro,” said Cerny.
“Our goal is to have something very similar to the FSR 4 climber available on PS5 Pro for 2026 titles as the next evolution of PSSR; it must take the same tickets and essentially produce the same outputs. Making that implementation is quite ambitious and slow, so it has not yet seen this new Upscaler on PS5 Pro.”
This occurs after AMD launched its new GPU RDNA 4 architecture for its RX 9000 series, in collaboration with PlayStation on Project Amethyst; A several years association that was announced in December, which aims to create “a more ideal architecture for automatic learning.”
“The neuronal network (and the training recipe) at the FSR 4 climber are the first results of the amethyst collaboration,” Cerny added. “And the results are excellent, it is a more advanced approach that can exceed PSSR’s crisp. I am very proud of the work of the joint team!”
Despite the intensive computer power of FSR4, Cerny also believes that the PS5 Pro has the potential to execute technology similar to FSR 4, saying: “That is what we are pointing to, and we believe we can achieve it.”
“The maximum performance number for PS5 Pro is 300 tops of 8 bits without shortage, which compares very well with the recently released AMD GPUs. We do not believe that the shortage is useful for this particular lifting algorithm,” he said.
