The Telecommunications Authority of Pakistan (PTA) and the wing of cyber crimes of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have launched a national repression against individuals and companies involved in the illegal sale of pre -activated foreign Sim cards.
According to a statement issued by the PTA, the coordinated raids are part of the ongoing efforts to curb telecommunications fraud and safeguard national security.
The operations were carried out in multiple cities, including Abbottabad, Skardu, Peshawar, Lahore and Sialkot.
The authorities attacked individuals and companies involved in the sale and distribution unauthorized of foreign SIM cards, which according to the reports were used for fraudulent activities, not verified communications and other criminal operations.
During the raids, several suspects were arrested and a significant number of Sim cards were illegally seized. PTA and FIA emphasized that the unauthorized sale of such Sims raises a serious threat to public security, since they facilitate communications impossible to track and anonymous.
The agencies reaffirmed their commitment to monitor and prevent illegal SIM cards, warning that strict action will continue against those that violate telecommunications regulations.
