Islamabad:

The Telecommunications Authority of Pakistan (PTA) began on Monday the license of virtual private network service providers (VPN) under the framework of class licenses to regulate data services in the country.

According to a PTA spokesman, the authority has approved the requests of two companies for the broadcast of class licenses for VPN services.

The initiative aims to facilitate companies in the legal use of VPN while guaranteeing data security, privacy and compliance with regulations. “The PTA undertakes to support organizations in responsible connectivity solutions,” said the spokesman.

Companies and people interested in obtaining a class license for VPN services can be applied through the Official PTA Electronic Services portal.

It is worth noting that on December 7, 2024, PTA introduced a VPN registration installation through mobile numbers, which allows independent workers who do not have a static IP to register and use VPN services.

“Independent workers can now register their mobile numbers for the use of VPN, which allows them to work without problems in mobile data,” said the PTA spokesman.

The initiative is part of PTA’s broader effort to promote the IT sector and simplify the VPN registration process.

Until now, the authority has registered more than 31,000 VPN, addressing previous challenges facing the freelancers faced with the static IP static record.

A class license allows several users to operate under a unified set of regulations without requiring individual approval. In December 2024, the PTA resumed class licenses for data services, specifically for VPN suppliers.

Companies that offer VPN and related services must obtain this license to legally operate in Pakistan.
