Pakistan’s telecommunications authority (PTA) announced on Wednesday that he had blocked 16 Indian YouTube news channels, 31 video links and 32 websites to allegedly disseminate false information and antipakistan propaganda.

In a press release, the regulatory body declared that the forbidden content was “to disseminate deceptive and harmful narratives aimed at manipulating public perception and undermine the national unity.”

The movement is produced in the midst of high regional tensions, with the PTA underlining its commitment to protect the digital space of Pakistan. “This action has been taken to the light of the prevailing regional situation to safeguard national security,” reads the statement.

The authority warned that it would continue to closely monitor online platforms and take firm measures against any material that threatens Pakistan’s national interests.

“We are still attentive to erroneous information campaigns and we will comply with compliance to guarantee the responsible use of digital platforms,” added the PTA.

Although the names of the channels and blocked websites were not revealed, the PTA confirmed that all were involved in the promotion of antipakistan content. Citizens have encouraged any suspicious material as part of broader efforts to combat online misinformation.
