Peshawar:

The PTI under the auspices of an alliance of opposition parties, the Tehreek Tahaffuz Ain-E-Pakistan (TTAP), will launch its such promoted protest movement against the “illegal” detention of the founder of PTI Imran Khan tomorrow.

According to the protest plan, on August 5, the day Imran Khan was arrested from Lahore two years ago in a corruption case, it will be observed as a black day throughout the country.

“On August 5 (Tomorrow), a national protest will take place under the flags of Pakistan, the PTI and the White Flag of La Paz,” announced the secretary general of TTAP Asad Qaiser at an emergency press conference held on Sunday in the PTI district secretariat in Swabi.

He said that on August 5 he marks the end of two years from the “illegal” arrest of Imran Khan and the opposition will celebrate peaceful protests throughout Pakistan.

Qaiser emphasized that the movement would remain completely within the constitutional and legal framework and would be carried out peacefully. He said that if there is any evidence against Imran Khan, then he must appear in a court open for merit so that the nation can learn the truth.

He affirmed that the Judiciary is no longer independent, and that judicial decisions are now influenced by the Executive. “Imran Khan is the most popular and worthy leader of this nation, who not only raised the image of Pakistan internationally, but also gave the nation a vision,” he added.

“His legal and constitutional rights are being violated, which is a direct attack on democracy, the Constitution and the rule of law.”

Shahram Khan Tarakai of PTI, who also spoke at the press conference, said on August 5, the provincial organizations and the chosen members of the Assembly will organize protests in several cities, and added that both the TTAP and the PTI are fully prepared.

He stressed that the movement is not a temporary reaction, but a sustained democratic struggle that will continue until its objectives are achieved. “Our movement is peaceful and once again we will demonstrate that Imran Khan supporters are respectful citizens of the law that respect the Constitution.”

He also declared that his struggle is for the supremacy of the Constitution, the protection of fundamental human rights and judicial independence. “Each individual must raise their own voice for their rights, only then will they be heard.”

Asad Qaiser, who served as the speaker of the National Assembly during the PTI Government, demanded that the judges guarantee justice by issuing verdicts for merit in open courts with a media presence.

He asked the formation of a judicial commission to thoroughly investigate the events of May 9, and those who are considered responsible for being punished in accordance with the law.

He also questioned the weakening state of Parliament, noting that now a government official eliminates the words of the speeches of the members, “which reflects the degradation of the role of the speaker.”

Qaiser said the part soon would decide whether to remain part of the current parliamentary system. He demanded transparent judicial procedures in all pending cases in the Superior Court of Islamabad with respect to Imran, his wife Bushra Bibi and other party leaders, with full protection of their legal and constitutional rights.

Speaking in a demonstration in Buner as part of the protest movement, the president of PTI, Gohar Ali Khan, said that political tensions intensified throughout the country after the events of May 9 and have not yet decreased.

“Our members have been subjected to legal cases, punishments and disqualifications. The MPA, the AMN and the PTI senators are not being unlegable, which is only adding fuel to the fire,” he added.

He said that the demand for the release of Imran is the voice of 70% of the people, the voice of 170 million citizens. “This voice cannot be suppressed longer because the voice of the people is the voice of democracy,” he said.

The PTI has finished its action plan for the protest of August 5, according to the instruction of Imran Khan.
