Lahore/Islamabad:
PTI’s secretary general, Salman Akram Raja, said on Saturday that the recent comments from the senior party leader Azam Swati on a possible agreement with the establishment have no connection with the besieged party.
He said he did not know any ongoing dialogue between the party and the establishment.
In statements to the media outside the Antiterrorist Court (ATC) of Lahore, Raja said that Swati could have been acting independently when he claimed to be in contact with key power runners to negotiate an agreement “for the good of the country.”
“I can only confirm such development after meeting the founding president of PTI Imran Khan. The situation is not clear until then,” Raja said. “We are not allowed to know him, and there is considerable confusion.” “We do not support kidnappings or illegal arrests. If a dialogue can guarantee the basic rights and personal freedoms of citizens, we would appreciate it. But we cannot accept anything less,” he said.
The general secretary of the party also said that the PTI has always advocated by the rule of law, the supremacy of the Constitution and the country.
“That is our central ideology. If the process advances from here, it is fine, but if someone thinks we are looking for a rear door exit, that is simply not true.”
He added that the situation would become clearer once a meeting was held with the founder of PTI Imran Khan. “The reason why they do not allow us to meet the founder of PTI is to create ambiguity. Only after that meeting we will know if he has authorized any dialogue,” Raja said.
