PTI to boycott the National Assembly on the treatment of legislators

Islamabad:

The president of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), BarrĂster Gohar, said Monday that the party would boycott the sessions of the National Assembly in protest against what he called an unfair treatment of his legislators.

“From now on, we will not attend the sessions of the National Assembly. We will protest and boycott instead,” Gohar said while talking to journalists along with other PTI members. In Islamabad.

He added that PTI’s parliamentary party met at the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) house, heard instructions from the founder of the party and supported them.

He accused the authorities to strip PTI legislators of their seats, disqualify them and silence their voices. “Even if we try to celebrate Independence Day, we are not allowed. Despite the innumerable difficulties, we attend sessions to increase democratically demands, but we are not allowed to speak,” he said.

Former President Asad Qaiser urged the Federal Government to support the victims of floods. “The KP government is working for the people affected by the floods. We will also appeal to the founder of our party so that it sets a fundraising call. We appeal to the United Nations to provide help. It is also the duty of the Federal Government,” he said.

KP Prime Minister Ali Amin Gandapur reported a severe devastation of heavy rains, particularly in Buner, Shangla, Swabi and Swat. “An increase in the flood of 12 to 14 feet destroyed houses. Our agencies rescued all people in 24 hours. Until now, 490 people have lost their lives in the province,” he said.

He said that compensation was being distributed, with RS2 million granted to the families of the deceased, RS1 million by completely destroyed homes and partial payments to the injured. “This is only support: a house cannot be rebuilt with RS1 million. But never in history has a work of help at that speed has been carried out,” he added.
