The Provincial Authority of Disaster Management (PDMA) has recommended an early start of summer vacations in Punjab educational institutions due to heat intensification and the risk of thermal waves, Express News reported Wednesday.
A letter issued by the general director of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, has been sent to the provincial school and higher education departments, as well as all the division commissioners and attached commissioners, advising them to take precautionary measures.
The letter proposes adjustments in school times and suggests announcing summer holidays before if temperatures continue to increase.
The authorities have also been urged to guarantee uninterrupted access to clean drinking water in schools and universities, prohibit outdoor activities and instruct students who wear light and baggy clothes.
In addition, the PDMA has requested a better ventilation in the classroom, fans that work and cooling systems, and the establishment of first aid counter with staff with personnel trained in heat waves.
Coordination with the District Disaster Management authorities has been emphasized to guarantee the timely flow of information.
In addition, dry climatic conditions continue through Punjab, with temperatures constantly rising as summer heat intensifies.
According to the MET office, the minimum Lahore temperature has reached 23 ° C, while the maximum is expected to increase at 40 ° C in the next few days.
