Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered Thursday to eliminate the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the May Hospital, Lahore, after a surprise visit where he found a generalized poor management and poor patient care.
During the visit, the patients and their assistants presented numerous complaints about the lack of medication availability, poor hygiene conditions and lack of medical facilities.
The CM walked through several rooms, directly committing to patients to listen to their complaints.
In one case, a young woman, taking, shared how she spent the night running between pharmacies to buy medications for her sick mother.
The main minister, visibly transferred by account, assured the girl that immediate measures would be taken.
“People come here with hope, but there is no one there to help them. Those responsible for this negligence will be responsible,” he said.
Patients in the cardiology room complained about the presence of insects, while others reported a shortage of syringes, cannulas and other essential supplies.
The CM ordered the hospital staff to carry out an integral inventory verification and guarantee the immediate provision of medical supplies.
Maryam Nawaz convened an emergency meeting at the hospital, instructing the Secretary of Health to present a detailed report on hospital issues.
He also ordered a complete renewal plan for the installation and authorization of the outstanding medicine supply quotas.
“The administration seems completely disconnected from the reality of the soil. If their loved ones were in this condition, it would not tolerate it,” he said.
The CM also instructed the health officials to carry out an exhaustive investigation into the management of the hospital and hold those responsible.
During the visit, he met several patients, including a couple of Sindh and a woman from Gujranwala, offering comfort and ensuring rapid assistance.
The Punjab government plans to review the hospital administration to improve patient care and guarantee the availability of essential medicines.
