Punjab expands the free Wi-Fi service with improved speeds

The free Wi-Fi service of the principal minister has spread to more areas in Punjab, including LaHore. The number of free Wi-Fi access points in Lahore has increased from 200 to 230, and the service has now been updated to the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology.

According to a spokesman, Switch to Wi-Fi 6 technology will provide users with a faster and more stable Internet service. The Safe cities authority offers free Wi-Fi in 300 locations in 11 districts in Punjab.

This service is currently active in Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum and Attock, with residents in Sahiwal, Okara and Murree also benefit from the service in key locations. Safe Cities spokesman confirmed that the free Wi-Fi service will soon be expanded throughout the province.

To date, more than 17.7 million users have accessed the service, with a total of 438 terabytes of data used. Residents have expressed their satisfaction, noting that the service has facilitated their daily activities.

The spokesman also clarified that the free Wi-Fi service is intended for emergency use and will not be available for transmission or video entertainment purposes. After the orders of the Punjab main minister, efforts are being made to transform the province into a digital center.

Previously, the CM of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, revealed ambitious plans to improve government schools in the province with smart classrooms and digital laboratories, marking a step towards the integration of modern technology in traditional education.

Speaking on digital learning day, Prime Minister Maryam emphasized that in today’s world, technological advancement and education go hand in hand.

“Development is now linked to technology, and Punjab youth must be equipped with the skills required to meet the demands of the modern world,” he said.

The prime minister highlighted government efforts to create opportunities for students to align with the demands of the international market, specifically through the introduction of advanced training programs.

As part of these efforts, Punjab is providing students with access to IT courses of international standards, including artificial intelligence (AI), software development and independent work.
