Punjab notifies new divisions

RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab government on Thursday notified a fresh administrative revamp of the province, which would now comprise 10 divisions, 41 districts and 216 tehsils, according to a gazette announcement made by Governor Sardar Saleem Haider.

A notification issued by the provincial revenue department, the erstwhile division of Gujarat, which was created by chief minister Parvez Elahi but abolished by then chief minister Shehbaz Shairf, had been reinstated. Similarly, Murree and Talagang had been given the status of full-fledged districts.

The new divisions include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur. After the renewal of divisions, districts and tehsils, it was decided to renew the electoral districts in Punjab.
