LAHORE:
The Punjab government has launched an expansive Plan for RS50 billion to expand shrimp agriculture throughout the province, with the aim of transforming the sector into an important taxpayer to the local economy and export profits.
The key components of the initiative include the development of a fish model of fish in LaHore and three farms of the state -of -the -art shrimp value chain in the Muzaffargarh district in southern Punjab.
According to the fishing department, a 3,000 -acres shrimp cultivation site will be established in RAKH Ali Wala, Muzaffarhrh, with an initial investment of RS10 billion.
In addition, the properties of the value chain in the head Muhammad Wala, Rakh Ali Wala and Shahgarh will be developed at a combined cost of RS40 billion. The Punjab government has allocated RS3 billion in the next fiscal budget to initiate these projects.
The Tayyab Rizwan fishing deputy director stated that the properties of the value chain will be fully integrated, with hatcheries, food factories and shrimp processing plants.
These facilities are expected not only to improve shrimp production, but also generate employment and stimulate seafood exports.
In Lahore, the government plans to build a modern modern fish market at a projected cost of RS10 billion.
The installation will include cold storage, additional value units and a simplified supply chain network to improve market access for fish and shrimp farmers. An initial budget allocation of RS848.6 million has been approved to begin construction.
