LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed the prohibition of the use of mobile phones by hospital staff below the BPS-18 grade during service hours in all public sector hospitals throughout the province, instructing the introduction of a search system for emergency communications.

According to two circulars issued on July 7, 2025, by the Department of Medical Education and Specialized Health, the decision aims to guarantee an uninterrupted emergency response and improve the quality of patient care in public medical care centers.

The first circular establishes that the use of perspectives is being mandatory in all public medical care institutions to improve rapid communication during high -risk situations.

“The search people help to ensure that critical alerts, such as Code Blue and Code Red, are immediately received and answered,” he says. All hospitals under the jurisdiction of the department have received instructions to guarantee strict compliance.

Meanwhile, the second directive prohibits the use of mobile phones during service hours throughout the hospital staff below 18 grade in emergencies, ICU, UCIN and OPERATION THEATRES.

The exceptions will be applied to higher administrative officials such as medical superintendents, additional medical and attachments, senior registrars and directors. The directive warns that the frequent and unnecessary use of mobile phones was altering patient care and hospital operations.

Medical superintendents and departments chiefs have had the task of enforcing the ban, monitoring staff behavior and presenting compliance reports within three days.
