The Punjab Education Department has announced plans to install advanced security cameras and surveillance systems in schools throughout the province to improve security.
Surveillance cameras will be placed at school entries to monitor activities and strengthen security measures. These cameras will be equipped with facial recognition technology to help identify students, teachers and visitors, according to the Department of Education.
The authorities will receive daily reports from surveillance systems to improve supervision and administration. The department said the measure aims to avoid unauthorized access, theft and vandalism while guaranteeing safer environments in high -risk areas, such as corridors and playgrounds.
In emergencies, such as intrusions or accidents, systems will provide real -time data to the authorities for rapid action. The measures are particularly significant in Lahore, where schools accommodate large student populations, authorities said.
Previously, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) education department had banned government schools to organize excursions, tours and picnics for students, citing security reasons.
A notification of the Department of Primary and Secondary Education instructed all government schools in the province, including those of the merged districts, to enforce the ban.
District’s education officers (DEOS) have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order. The authorities said that the measure aims to improve the safety of students keeping them in a controlled environment, reducing external risks and focusing resources on internal security.
“These steps will help guarantee a safer educational experience for students and staff,” said an official.
