The confrontation between the Punjab government and the opposition on the suspension of 26 MPa of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) seems to have been resolved, since both parties reached a negotiated agreement, paving the path for the withdrawal of the describing references presented against opposition legislators.
According Express newsThe president of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, decided to launch the references presented to the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) against the 26 MPA suspended.
On the instructions of the speaker, the assembly officials have prepared a draft of order that suspends government requests, which will formally issue the return of the speaker abroad.
The references were originally presented by the Treasury legislators, including Ahmad Iqbal, Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman and Iftikhar Ahmed Chhachhar, accusing the members of the opposition of misconduct during a recent assembly session.

The controversy comes from an incident on June 27, when 26 members of the PTI were suspended from the Assembly to create an “uproar, uproar and indecent slogans” during the discourse of the Punjab Prime Minister, Maryam Nawaz. The action was taken under rule 210 (3) of the Rules of Procedure of the Punjab Assembly, 1997.
Despite receiving disqualification requests from Treasury banks, President Khan gave the MPA suspended the opportunity to submit their case under article 10-A of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to a fair hearing. The audience took place in the Speaker’s Chamber in the Punjab Assembly.
Subsequently, a negotiation committee composed of members of the PML-N, its allied parts and PTI formed to resolve the dead point.

The committee met three times, with the most recent meeting held on Thursday. While no formal announcement was made after previous rounds, both parties described the conversations as productive.
The sources indicated that the speaker’s final decision would determine the moment of the restoration of the MPA. However, the opposition has maintained that it will boycott all the procedures of the Assembly until suspended legislators are officially reinstalled.
In statements to journalists, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman confirmed that progress had been made, saying that both the government and the opposition had agreed a set of conditions.
