The Punjab government has decided to transition from the 43 prisons in the province to solar energy, a movement is expected to reduce electricity and gas costs up to 60%.

The Plan, which aims to address the increase in public services costs, has been presented by the Punjab Department of Interior and is waiting for the final approval of Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz, said Express News.

An initial survey conducted by the National Radio and Telecommunications Corporation (NRTC) has estimated that annual energy costs for the 43 Punjab prisons have reached the amazing RS4.5 billion.

However, it is expected that the total cost of the transition from these prisons to solar energy is less than annual public services invoices, which makes the investment a long -term profitable solution.

According to NRTC, the transition to solar energy for the 43 prisons will require an investment of approximately RS4.35 billion.

The gradual implementation of the green energy solution will result in a 60% reduction in electricity costs, providing long -term financial relief.

The investment is expected to recover within three years, after which prisons will become self -sufficient energy, reducing financial burden on the provincial treasure.

A spokesman for the Punjab Department of Interior declared that the decision to move to green energy was taken in response to increases registered in electricity and gas invoices in recent years.

The transition proposal of all prisons to solar energy has been presented to the provincial cabinet, with a recommendation to assign RS2 billion in the current fiscal year to initiate the project.
