Punjab to establish tourism and patrimonial authority for 170 historical sites

The Punjab government has decided to establish the Tourism and Heritage Authority of Punjab, a measure that will see the restoration of 170 historical sites throughout the province.

These sites, which include temples, mosques and gurdwaras, will be transformed into international standard tourist centers, said Express News.

The official summary for the formation of the authority has been presented to the provincial cabinet for approval.

Once established, the authority will supervise all institutions related to history, heritage and tourism in the region. The list of 170 sites includes 101 Gurdwaras, 53 churches and other historical reference points.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurengzeb, as a corresponding minister, has approved all the projects proposed under the new initiative.

To guarantee the success of the project, the Punjab Tourism and Heritage Authority Law has been enacted and a comprehensive tourist policy has been developed.

Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz has also included a three -phase plan to restore Punjab historical sites in the annual development program, with tenders that will begin in July.

The restoration will begin in June, with the end of expected in the second and third phases.

The preparation of PC-1 for tourism projects has been urgently instructed.

The plan includes the construction of Bonsra Gali, a tourist town and 16 parks. The historic city of Taxila will become an international “tourist city”, and approval has also been granted to transform the Changa manga into a modern leisure resort, similar to Switzerland.

In Taxila, new temples and galleries will be built that are named Siddhartha to facilitate Buddhist followers. For the convenience of the SIJ community, 46 inactive Gurdwaras will be restored. To promote tourism, the best roads will be built, the infrastructure will be completely updated and modern facilities of international standards will be provided.

Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz declared that through this program for the Renaissance of Tourism, Punjab will become the best tourist destination. “We will invite the entire world to experiment Punjab, showing the cultural wealth of the Earth of five rivers,” he said.
