- Qualcomm presents Dragonwing Q-6690 with RFID on board eliminating the need for external modules
- The processor combines RFID, AI and advanced wireless support for retail logistics and industry
- Rain Alliance says that integration could transform operations and create new connected markets
Qualcomm has announced a new business mobile processor that integrates RFID directly into the chip, something that no other mobile CPU has offered previously.
The Dragonwing Q-6690 gathers RFID with 5G 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and ultra wide band support.
The processor has been designed for use in devices through retail, logistics and industrial environments, since Qualcomm says that it can withstand resistant hand hand, point of sale systems, kiosks and other factors commercially.
Software configurable packages
By directing RFID directly, the processor eliminates the need for separate RFID reader modules, resulting in thinner devices.
“The Dragonwing Q-6690 combines wireless capabilities of RFID, AI and next generation in a single scalable platform, designed to accelerate innovation in industries, including retailers, logistics and manufacturing,” said Art Miller, vice president and retail manager in Qualcomm.
“We are particularly excited to work with retailers today that need platforms that are not only powerful and connected, but also adaptable to the expectations of clients evolving, from smarter kiosks and hand hand to real -time inventory analysis and experience without contact.”
Qualcomm sees the new platform as a tool for contactless applications such as access control, asset monitoring, products authentication and real -time inventory management.
The platform offers configurable software packages that will allow manufacturers to customize computer feeding, multimedia support, camera capabilities and peripheral options for specific devices.
These packages will be updated in the air, eliminating the need to redesign the hardware, which should help reduce certification demands, as well as accelerate product launch and extend the life cycles of the device.
For retailers, the new chip could be used for product monitoring and store operations, while for industrial and logistics configuration, integration could accelerate and simplify the processes that depend on RFID scan.
Several device manufacturers, including Zebra, Honeywell, Urovo, HMD Secure and Cipherlab, say they plan to release products promoted by the processor, with the expected commercial availability in the coming months.
