The maligned former prince, accused of sexually abusing the late Virginia Giuffre during his teenage years, was fiercely protected by his mother.

Church of England vicar Stephen Kuhrt asked if Her Majesty had a blind spot regarding the son.

He wrote: “Three years after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, much admiration for her strong sense of duty continues.

“Justice demands, however, that Elizabeth II receives scrutiny equal to that of others in positions of responsibility.

“Is it really believable that she would completely ignore the activities and certainly the associations of the son she was so close to?

“If not, was his lack of action on behalf of the vulnerable compatible with the role of someone so publicly committed (‘whether my life will be long or short’) to the service of his people?

“Should we accept the excuse that she had a blind spot towards the ‘weaknesses’ of her so-called favorite son?” he pointed out.
