Pakistan will receive extensive rain prior to the monsoon from June 20 to 23, offering relief of the severe heat wave that grabs several regions, the Pakistan’s department of Meteorology (PMD) said Wednesday.

The wet spell is expected to bring dust storms, rain wind and thundershowers to large parts of the country, with isolated areas that also probably experience heavy rains and hail storms.

The PMD said that an unstable climate would be developed due to the wet currents of the Bengal Bay and the Arabic Sea, as well as a wave of the west that is expected to enter the upper parts of the country on June 20.

“Wind storms and rays can cause damage to vulnerable structures such as electrical posts, trees, solar panels and parked vehicles,” the target office warned. He added that the current heat wave would probably reduce during the forecast period.

From June 20 to 23, rain and thunderstorms are forecast in superior and central punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Atock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Sargodha.

The upper districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Dir and Waziristan, will also experience rain and racing winds. Similar conditions are expected in Gilgit-Baltist, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Murree and Galliyat.

The weather office predicted a more dispersed rain from June 21 to 23 in parts of southern Punjab and the northeast of Baluchistan, particularly Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Zhob.

From June 22 to 24, it is likely that the activity prior to the monsoon reaches the upper districts of Sindh such as Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu and Jacobabad.

The department warned about possible urban floods in low areas of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Islamabad during the strong downpours.

Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities accordingly. The public was urged to avoid unnecessary trips to vulnerable or flooding areas.

“All interested authorities are advised to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to mitigate any unpleasant situation,” said the PMD.
